Step 1: Create an account for developers

Before you can publish any app on Google Play , you need to create a Developer Account. You can easily sign up for one using your existing Google Account.

The process of signing up is fairly straightforward, and you will have to pay a $25 one-time registration fee. You will make the transaction using your credit or debit card after you have checked and approved the Developer Distribution Agreement.

To complete the registration process, provide all the account details you need, including your Developer Name, which will be available on Google Play to your customers. Further specifics can always be added later.

Also, do remember that it can take up to 48 hours for your registration to be fully processed.

Step 2: Is sales planned? Link your account to the merchant

You need to create a payment center profile, i.e. a merchant account, if you want to publish a paid app or plan to sell in-app purchases. This is how you can do this:

  1. Sign in to your Play Console

  2. Click on Download Reports – Financial

  3. Select ‘Set up a merchant account now’

  4. Fill out your business information

It will automatically be connected to your developer account when you build the profile.

A merchant account will allow you to monitor your app purchases and monthly payouts, as well as review your Play Console sales reports.

Step 3: Establish an App

You can finally add your app after you set up your Play Console. This is how to do here:

  1. Navigate to the ‘All applications’ tab in the menu

  2. Click on 'Create Application'

  3. Select your app’s default language from the drop-down menu

  4. Type in a title for your app

  5. Click on “Create”

The title of your app will show on Google Play after you’ve published. Don’t worry too much about it at this stage; you can always change the name later.

After you’ve created your app, you’ll be taken to the store entry page. Here, you will need to fill out all the details for your app’s store listing.

Step 4: Prepare the listing of store

You will plan your store listing before you can release your request. These are all the details that will appear on the Google Play listing of your app to customers.

Note: This stage does not necessarily have to be completed before you move on to the next one. When you are ready to publish, you can always save a draft and edit it later.

The information needed for the listing of your store is divided into several categories:

Product Details:

There are three fields here that you need to fill out:

Graphic Assets:

Many sections are mandatory under graphic resources, such as screenshots, a graphic element, and a high-resolution icon. Others are optional, but they can be added to make the app more user-friendly.

Languages & Translations:

In the store listing details, as well as in-language screenshots and other localized images, you can also add translations of your app's content.

There is also an option for users to view automatic translations of information about your app using Google. Translate (except for Armenian, Raeto-romance, Tagalog, and Zulu), if you don't add your own translations.


This section requires you to select the type and category to which your application belongs. You can select either app or game for the application type from the drop-down menu.

There are different categories available in the Play Store for each type of app. Choose the one that fits in best with your phone.

You will need to upload an APK first to rate your content. For later, you can skip this step.

Contact Details:

This part requires you to enter contact details to provide support for your app to your customers.

Here you can add multiple forms of communication, such as an address, website, and phone number, but it is compulsory to provide a contact email to release an app.

Privacy Policy:

With apps that require access to confidential user data or privileges, you need to sign a robust privacy policy that essentially discloses how that data is collected, used, and exchanged by your device.

In your store listing and in your app, you will add a URL to your privacy policy. Make sure that the reference for your app is active and important.

You're finished with the listing of the store. Go ahead and click to save your details on' Save Draft.' Until you publish your app, you can always miss some steps and return to them later.

Step 5: App Release Upload APK

Now that you've finally prepared the ground for uploading your app, it's time to dig your APK file out.

The Android Package Kit (or short APK) is the file format used to distribute and install apps by the Android operating system. Simply put, all the elements needed for your app to actually work on a device are in your APK file.

Google gives you a number of ways to install your APK and launch it. However, you need to create an app release before you upload the file.

Select the application you created in Step 3 to build a release. Then navigate to' Release Management'->' App Releases' from the menu on the left.

You need to choose the type of release to which you want to upload your first version of the app. You can choose from an internal review, a closed test, an open test, and a release of output.

The first three releases allow you to check the software among a small group of users before allowing everyone access to it live.

This is a safer option because, if you need to roll it out to all customers, you can evaluate the test results and refine or repair the software accordingly.

If you create a production release, however, your uploaded version of the app will be available to everyone in the countries you choose to distribute it.

Click on' Create Release' after you have selected an option. First, follow the on-screen instructions to add your APK files, name and explain your release.

After you’re done, press Save.

Step 6: Appropriate score of content:

If your app does not receive a ranking, it will be classified as' Unrated.' Google Play can delete apps that are' Unrated.'

To score your app, you need to complete a questionnaire on the content quality. By selecting your app from the Play Console, you can access it and navigate to' Store Presence'–' Content Rating' in the left menu.

Make sure you enter information that is correct. Misrepresentation of the content of your app can result in the Play Store being suspended or removed.

A suitable rating of content will also help you reach the right audience, which will ultimately improve your engagement rates.

Step 7: Pricing and distribution set up:

You need to determine the monetization strategy of your app before you can fill in the details required in this step.

You can go ahead and set up your app as free or paid once you know how your app will make money.

Note, you can change your phone from paid to free later, but you can't change the free app you want to pay for.

You will need to create a new app and set the price for it.

You can also pick the countries in which you want to distribute your software and also opt-in to deliver it to different Android devices and programs.

Step 8: Rollout to Release Your App:

You're nearly done. The final step involves reviewing and rolling out your release after making sure that everything else has been taken care of.

Before reviewing and rollouting your release, make sure you have a green check mark next to each of your app's store listing, content rating, and pricing and distribution sections.

Pick your app and navigate to' Release Control'–' App Updates.' Press' Edit Patch' next to your chosen release and check it.

Next, click the' Review' button to go to the screen ' Review and rollout release.' You can see here if there are any issues or warnings that you may have missed.
